Start with food. Everyone eats.
We can bring home the bacon, butter up the boss, sell it like hot cakes, be as cool as a cucumber, disapprove of the bad egg, cry over spilt milk, and turn into couch potatoes. We can digest food for thought or bite off more than we can chew. Tell us what you eat, and we’ll tell you who you are. So who are you?
Food is an important part of a balanced diet. ~Fran Lebowitz
Are you buffalo mozzerella with sun-ripened tomatoes, sweet basil, and fresh-pressed olive oil? Are you local zucchini, crooked yellow squash, vibrant carrots, and pungent elephant garlic stir-fried over steaming rice? Or are you lukewarm, paper-wrapped burgers with bland cheese and a side of greasy, over-salted French fries? A can of mushy vegetable soup, watery and lifeless? Food can be a vital, varied, and wonderful part of life, but all too often we consume substandard, marginally nutritious, prepackaged, frozen and microwaved meals –hardly food at all.
food \‘füd\ n: something that nourishes, sustains, or supplies
Begin eating fresher, tastier, more nutritious food. Learn about how your food was made, and where it came from. Pretty soon you’ll want to learn how to choose the best foods with the best ingredients, and you might even want to start making it yourself. Tasting a real strawberry in May, you’ll feel like your tastebuds have been sleeping all these years, and start to pay attention to all the sensory delights -pure aromas, naturally complex flavors, previously unnoticed sounds. After awhile, maybe you’ll start to care more about this wonderfully fecund planet, and want to grow tomatoes with your kids, and share dinner over the table with your friends. Eat. Grow. Live.
Here at eat. grow. live. we’re interesting in eating (and drinking) with pleasure, growing our communities, our relationships, and our experiences, and living well. We believe that living well necessitates taking care of our friends, loved ones, communities, and planet, and we do our best to live responsibly and sustainably, with gusto and enthusiasm. Try it. You’ll like it.
